A CCTV camera installed in the shop recorded how a 25 kg sack of dhal was stolen from a shop. The theft had taken place at a shop in Galle. The theft of a sack of chillies and a sack of onions was also reported in the country. The thefts were reported from several parts of the island.
Indian devotees killed in stampede
Jammu and Kashmir: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences over the death of a number of worshipers at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir. By 2021, 120,000 people went abroad for work
By the end of December 2021, about 120,000 people had registered for foreign employment, according to the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment. Accordingly, 30,000 workers are registered for employment in Qatar, 27,000 for Saudi Arabia and about 20,000 for employment in the United Arab Emirates. About 1,400 jobs have been registered in South Korea, 1,100 in Singapore, 1,600 in Cyprus and 800 in Japan, the agency said. The children were found in the Horowpothana town yesterday (31) afternoon, according to the Horowpothana Police. The children, who had come to Welimuwapothana Junction on a road running through a jungle forest about two kilometres from home, had boarded an SLTB bus travelling from Trincomalee to Jaffna at around 5:55 am, police said. Later the children who had come to Kebithigollewa town by the same bus. Then they had returned to Kahatagasdigiliya by a bus from Kebithigollewa to Kahatagasdigiliya. When they came to know that the road was lost, they boarded a bus from Kahatagasdigiliya to Horowpothana and returned to Horowpothana. Police found them at the Jaffna bus stand on their way to Jaffna around 10:30 pm yesterday (31). They told the police that they had been planning to visit Shivanya for some time and planned to go to Jaffna first because a friend of them told them that Jaffna is the nearest city to India because the actresses are in India. Tax reduced on Imported potatoes and big onion
The Special Commodity Levy on imported potatoes and big onions has been reduced with effect from midnight yesterday (31). The excise duty on imported potatoes and big onions has been reduced by 30 rupees per kilogram, the Finance Ministry said. Teens could vote immediately upon completion of 18 years in Sri Lanka
Legal provisions have been made for persons who have attained the age of 18 years to be given the right to vote by a supplementary electoral roll before entering the main electoral roll. The Election Commission has stated this in a statement. Accordingly, as the first stage of this, citizens who have completed 18 years of age during the period from 01.06.2021 to 31.01.2022 i.e. those who were born between 01.06.2003 and 31.01.2004 can apply for registration in the Electoral Roll by entering it in the YC form.
15 billion rupees worth of drugs seized
The Navy has seized more than 15 billion rupees worth of narcotics during operations in 2021. The Navy said that the drugs were seized during raids conducted in Sri Lankan waters as well as in international waters along with other intelligence units. During the operation, 141 suspects, including foreigners, were arrested with more than 1,268 kilograms of heroin. Also, stocks of various types of narcotics including 7,095 kilograms of Kerala cannabis, 158 kilograms of ice and 88 kilograms of hashish were seized. The Navy announced that 327 suspects were arrested during operations conducted in the year 2021.
