A man has died after falling from the 9th floor of the Maradana Police Single Cane Building. Police said that a 70 year old resident of Kolonnawa died in the accident. Police stated that a person who was engaged in sanitation work in the building had been involved in the accident. Further investigations into the incident are ongoing.

A suspect who attempted the crime to smuggle over Rs. 20 million from Sri Lanka to the Undiyal system has been arrested by the CID. The suspect was produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court today and remanded till the 28th of this month. The suspect was a resident of Hedala, Wattala tried to send money to Salidu Malshitha, a resident of Kuda Arukgoda, Panadura, who is currently under investigation under the Money Laundering Act.

The Ministry of Justice has decided to include amendments to the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act, including making a policy decision to allow polygamy of Muslim men on strict conditions. As per the proposal made by the Ministry of Justice at its Cabinet Meeting held on 8th March 2021 on the recommendation of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Legislative Drafting It was decided to ban polygamy of Muslim men, introduce new laws and abolish Khati courts. However, the Ministry of Justice points out that the decision has been opposed by the Muslim community. The Ministry of Justice is of the view that it is appropriate to implement the law in the Kathi courts as the submission of polygamy laws of the Muslim community to the District Courts is another reason for the legal delay. The Ministry of Justice has decided that only issues that cannot be resolved should be referred to the District Court.

The suspect had gone to the MP’s house and scolded her for not giving her a loan and threatened her with death, police said. The arrested suspect will be produced before court, police said.
