Kelani River is the most polluted river in the country

The Kelani River has been identified as the most polluted river in the country. Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says that 1,344 places where the Kelani River is polluted have been identified so far.

 Commenting on this, the Minister said, “From this, we hope to find out where the pollution from the Kelani River comes from and how it will be solved. We hope that the Surakimu Ganga Project will turn all 103 rivers in the country into clean rivers.
We also work to bring water to usable levels in all of our 103 rivers. Among them10,743 places have been identified as contaminants or pollutants. The Kelani River in particular has the most polluted water. 1,344 places in the Kelani rivers have been identified as waste collection points. The toilets in the houses are direct across the river. We need to take action to rectify this. “
