UN explains reasons for rising food prices

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) says food prices around the world have risen sharply.

World food prices have risen by 30% in the past year, the organization says, which is the highest food price recorded this decade.

Grain and vegetable oil prices have risen significantly in all countries around the world. Last month alone, vegetable oil prices rose by 10%.

They also point to the collapse of the supply chain, the closure of factories, the rise in prices of essential commodities, and the crisis in world politics.

The collapse of the service sector and staff shortages during the covid pandemic have also had an impact on rising global food prices.

Globally, prices of dairy products have risen by 16% due to the collapse of the shipping system.

The report further states that this situation is more prevalent in countries that import essential commodities.
