Attorney-at-Law Aruna Laksiri Unawatuna has complained with the IGP against Dr Sudath Samaraweera, the former Director of the Epidemiology Unit, and others in charge of the unit, alleging that he had compromised national security by failing to perform his statutory duties by submitting incorrect statistics.
Specialist Dr Sudath Samaraweera and other government officials have misrepresented and altered the statistics on the number of deaths due to corona infection,
They have endangered the lives of the people, failing to fulfil their constitutional duty to the people, including those with corona disease, and has also endangered national security.
The complaint alleges that the clause was also erroneous 289 of the Ceylon Penal Code.
Accordingly, the petitioner has requested that the inquiries be conducted to ascertain whether the victims were genuinely infected with the coronavirus and whether the figures presented were correct and the matter be investigated as soon as possible.
