Chinese flag hoisted in Jaffna

The Daily Mirror reports that a Chinese company has hoisted the Chinese national flag on the land belonging to a construction project being carried out in Jaffna.

However, the Minister of External Affairs has responded by saying that under normal circumstances it is illegal and that no such incident has been reported to him so far.

He has also stated that it is the responsibility of the local government body to look into this matter.

However, the Minister of External Affairs states that although the opportunity to hoist the national flag of one’s home country can be hoisted on a special occasion, the permission of the relevant local government body should be obtained.

He has stated that some payment should be made for this and that it should be ascertained whether the procedure has been carried out properly.
