The Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera states that he is of the opinion that the rice imported to Sri Lanka from abroad is unfit for human consumption.
He also claims that in the production of the imported rice, chemicals and inferior fertilizers which are not used in this country have been used.
Therefore, he said that imported rice is more suitable for animals than for humans, so if the relevant gazette notification is removed to solve animal feed problems, that amount of rice can be used for animal consumption.
He further said that the farmers of this country have strengthened to provide the required amount of rice to the people of this country. The minister said this while speaking to the media after a ceremony held in Colombo.
