A special notice from Police residents of Colombo
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that a special program will be launched today to obtain information on persons who have come to Colombo from various parts of the country to perform their duties. Police say the aim is to ensure national security and curb crime and drug activities in the city of Colombo. Information will be collected on all temporary occupants of permanent residents’ homes, business premises, institutions, public or private premises, construction sites, etc. within the Colombo Municipal Council area. Accordingly, this program will be held today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow (14,15,16). If there are temporary occupants in the above places, during these three days you should obtain a specially prepared form from the Community Police Officers who visit the streets of the area or from the nearest police station and enter the correct details of the persons concerned and submit it to the Police or Police Station.
CPC agrees to provide diesel for electricity
Steps have been taken to provide 1500 metric tons of diesel per day to maintain the power plants which have been shut down by the Ceylon Electricity Board, said the Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Sumith Wijesinghe. The Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation further stated that further action will be taken after a discussion to be held again on Tuesday (18). The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has previously stated that it will no longer be able to supply fuel to the CEB on a loan basis. However, the Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation said that the decision was taken at the request of the Electricity Board. The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has previously stated that further power cuts will be imposed in the near future if fuel is not available for operation at power plants.
Station masters on a strike again
 The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association has resumed an emergency strike just hours before the end of the strike launched yesterday. The trade union action has been resumed alleging that the General Manager of the Railways has taken action to suspend the Vice President of the union. Accordingly, the Station Masters have abruptly resigned from their duties this afternoon. The General Secretary of the union, Kasun Chamara, said that they had taken this trade union action against the arbitrary suspension of the Vice President of his union.
Special assistance from India to Sri Lanka
India has provided over US $ 900 million in foreign exchange assistance to Sri Lanka. It is reported that this assistance has been provided to strengthen the foreign exchange reserves of the country. Terrible accident on a highway in South Africa
At least 16 people have been killed in a road accident on a highway in South Africa. According to foreign media reports, the accident took place in the Limpopo area. Foreign media reported that a small bus carrying passengers had collided with a car. The bus had caught fire and 16 passengers had died in the accident. Eight other people were injured in the accident and hospitalized, foreign media reported.

A suspect was remanded for breaking the leg of a lawyer by beating him with an iron rod
Nugegoda Pannaradhana Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday (12) remanded the suspect who was arrested for breaking the leg of a lawyer with an iron rod for burning garbage in an empty land until the 18th of this month. The suspect was a resident of Waraketiya, Maharagama. The suspect was arrested by the Maharagama Police and produced before the court. The lawyer had burnt the rubbish on the afternoon of the 11th in an empty plot of land between the suspect’s house and the plaintiff’s house. The lawyer who appeared for the plaintiff pointed out that the suspect who had come there at that time had argued with the lawyer and then had beaten him with an iron rod. The lawyers said that one of the lawyers legs had been broken in several places due to the assault and that he was being treated at the Kalubowila Hospital and was due to undergo surgery.
