Japan and India have agreed to work together to help Sri Lanka to recover from the economic crisis.
The agreement was reached during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo on the sidelines of the Code Summit.
The purpose of this discussion was to build closer ties for the development of free and open Indo-Pacific cooperation.
Although Japan has been a major donor to Sri Lanka for more than 50 years, its focus on China in recent years has reduced it’s investment and assistance.
These countries have also accepted the proposal made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to create a collection of foreign donors to Sri Lanka, led by the United States, India, Japan and Australia.
