World number one tennis champion deported from Australia

An Australian federal court has rejected an appeal by world number one tennis champion Novak Djokovic against the revocation of his visa. Novak Djokovic arrived in Australia recently to participate in the Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne. However, he was not allowed to enter Australia by the Australian government due to his violation of the law and appealed against it. The appeal was also rejected by a federal court, foreign media reported. He is expected to be deported from Australia.

Four drug raids, including a woman, arrested

Four persons including a woman have been arrested during drug raids in several areas. Police said that the suspects were arrested in Mannar, Grandpass and Panadura areas. Two suspects were arrested while transporting ice drugs in a three-wheeler near Thanapuram Junction in Mannar. The suspects, aged 25 and 30, were residents of Mannar and 50 grams of ice was found in their possession. Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man was arrested in the Wadullawatta area in Grandpass with 05 grams of heroin. Police also arrested a 44-year-old woman with 105 grams of heroin in the Rathuwatta area in Panadura.
A person who went on a pilgrimage to Sri Pada has died

A person has died due to a sudden illness while going on a pilgrimage to Sri Pada. The deceased has been identified as a 75-year-old resident of Nawalapitiya. The deceased had come with his family members on a pilgrimage to Sri Pada where he had suddenly fallen ill. A police officer who was on duty at the time was informed and arrangements were made to bring him down immediately. Police say he died at the hospital. The body of the deceased has been placed at the Hatton Dikoya Hospital and an autopsy is to be conducted. Nallathanniya police are conducting further investigations.
Man dies after jumping from upper floor of apartment complex in Colombo

A man has died after jumping from the 7th floor of an apartment complex in the Wellawatte area in Colombo. The victim succumbed to his injuries on admission to the Kalubowila Hospital, police said. The deceased has been identified as an 87-year-old resident of Colombo 06. Police investigations have revealed that he had committed suicide due to mental distress.
