This is an end as well as a beginning – Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka while visiting Adam’s Bridge

Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Xi Zheng hong concluded his three-day official visit to the North on the evening of the 17th with a special visit to Point Pedro, Japan and the Adam’s Bridge in Mannar. After meeting the Jaffna fishing community and government officials, the visit ended at the Point Pedro in Jaffna. The Chinese Ambassador and his delegation also observed the seas off Point Pedro using drone cameras, where the Chinese Ambassador inquired about the distance from the tip to India. It is reported that the officials who were there later informed that India is located about 30 km away. The Chinese Ambassador and his entourage then concluded their visit to Jaffna with the Chinese Ambassador giving Particular attention to the Adam’s Bridge between Mannar and India. Later, the Chinese Ambassador and his delegation arrived at the Naval Drift Camp and from there several Navy vessels patrolled Adam’s Bridge. Gao Bing, Deputy Chief of Defense Staff of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, and Lu O Chung, Chief Political Officer will also be present at the event. After travelling 17 nautical miles in the Mannar Sea, the Chinese Ambassador and his entourage observed the Adam’s Bridge. his entourage spent about twenty minutes observing Adam’s Bridge Before returning to the naval base, the Chinese ambassador boarded his official car, commenting to the media, saying that this was the end as well as the beginning. The dune about 30 km from Talaimannar to Dhanushkodi in India is also known as Adam’s Bridge and is also known as Ram Setu by the Indians.  It has 16 small dunes, 8 of which belong to Sri Lanka and the rest to India. Meanwhile, in March, the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopala Bagli and a group of people visited Adam’s Bridge and performed religious rites on one of the dunes. In such a situation the Chinese Ambassador inspecting Point Pedro in Jaffna and Adam’s Bridge in Mannar is a special event. The police, navy and army have provided special security for the Chinese ambassador’s visit to the North.

Champions who adorned the motherland with gold and silver medals to the island

The Sri Lankan winners of the World Weightlifting Championship, which was held concurrently with the Commonwealth Games in Tuscan, Uzbekistan, arrived in the island this morning (19). The Sri Lankan athletes who participated in the tournament had won five bronze medals including a gold and a silver. Chinthana Vidanage and Indika Dissanayake of the Sri Lanka Navy, AUMM Wijesinghe of the Sri Lanka Air Force and Thilanga Palagasinghe of the Polonnaruwa Weightlifting Club won bronze medals representing the Sri Lanka Men’s Weightlifting Team. The Sri Lankan men’s team won the third place at the World Championships.

Large number killed in an explosion in Pakistan

At least 14 people have been killed in an explosion at a bank building in the Pakistani city of Karachi.  Foreign reports said the explosion was suspected to have been caused by a gas leak in a sewer. The death toll from the blast could rise further, Pakistani officials say. Operations are underway to find people trapped in the rubble of the building.

A bus carrying a group of passengers overturns

Seventeen people were injured when a bus carrying a group of passengers overturned. The accident had taken place near the Galode bridge in Padiyathalawa. Police stated that a private bus traveling from Kilinochchi to Kataragama was involved in the accident. The reason behind the accident was the driver was unable to control the bus, police said. The injured have been admitted to the Mahaoya Hospital. The driver of the bus has been arrested in connection with the accident, police said.

Train accident in Dharga Town – Child dies

A child was killed when a train traveling from Galle to Mt. Lavinia collided with him near the Aluthgama railway station yesterday (18) morning.  The deceased was a 9-year-old boy residing in the Dharga Town area of ​​Main Street. The body has been placed at the Nagoda Hospital morgue in Kalutara.  Aluthgama Police are conducting further investigations.

Navy arrests Indian fishermen in the North Sea

The Navy has arrested 43 Indian fishermen who were fishing in Sri Lankan waters. Navy spokesman Capt. Indika de Silva said that they were arrested last night (18) in Sri Lankan waters near Delft. Six fishing vessels were also taken into custody by the Navy. The arrested fishermen and their vessels have been brought to the Myladi fishing harbor and further investigations are being carried out by the fisheries authorities, a Navy spokesman said.

Young woman killed in elevator crash

A 26-year-old woman has died after an elevator collapsed at a plastic factory in Pilimatalawa. The two victims were a woman residing in the Balana area, police said. Another woman who was injured in the accident is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital. The factory, which manufactures polythene bags and rice bags, has three floors, police said. The accident had taken place when an elevator carrying goods had crashed down while loading goods from the third floor.  Kadugannawa police are conducting further investigations.

Good news for graduates who have joined the public service

The granting of permanent appointments to 51,000 graduates will commence on January 03, said the Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed to look into the matter, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. He said that the group will be stationed at the designated work place as government development officers. The 42,500 who have completed one year of training will be confirmed first and the rest will be confirmed on April 1 next year after completing one year of training. Minister Dinesh Gunawardena also stated that there are about 22,000 permanent public servants who wish to join the teaching profession.

Terrorists severely punished for bombing Bodhi Gaya

An Indian court has ordered severe punishment for the terrorists who detonated bombs in Bodhi Gaya. The bombings were carried out in 2018 by a group of terrorists. Eight people had pleaded guilty there and were sentenced yesterday.  Three were sentenced to life imprisonment while the other five were sentenced by a Patna court to 10 years in prison each.
