The government is considering removing Arabic nameplates for certain roads in the Eastern Province.

The attention of the Public Service Commission and the Survey Department of Sri Lanka has been drawn to remove the names of roads in other languages besides the national languages.

The Survey Department says that those names will be removed by a new bill to be presented to Parliament in the future.

According to the Sri Lankan government, if a name board is displayed to the public, Sinhala and Tamil should be given priority and English should be given third place as an allied language.
