A 4-year-old girl who went missing in a remote part of Australia has been found safe. That was 18 days after she disappeared.
The girl, Cleo Smith, had gone with her family to a camp in the town of Carnarvon in the state of Western Australia. The girl had gone missing on October 16 while camping there.
According to the foreign media, a massive search operation was launched to find the girl.
The Western Australian government has announced a reward of up to AUS$ 1 million for information leading to the capture of Smith. More than 100 police officers and emergency personnel were involved in the search operation.
In addition to the land operation, an air and sea operation was launched to find her. After a thorough search, Cleo Smith was found inside a locked house in the town of Carnarvon. The girl was rescued by the police who broke down the door of the house.
A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident and is being questioned, Australian police said. The girl has now been back with her parents.
