Youths have attacked by a armed gang in the Puttalam area demanding the demolition of all traditional Islamic mosques and the construction of Wahabist mosques.

A youth who was seriously injured in the attack has been admitted to the Puttalam Hospital.

On a previous occasion, a relative of the youth who had come to the mosques to practice  religion had also been assaulted in this manner.

The complaint alleges that the attackers continued to threaten to join Wahabism instead of attending traditional mosques.

 Three persons arrested in connection with the attack have been remanded after being produced in court.
