Clinical trials have shown that a drug made in the United States against the covid virus reduces hospitalizations and deaths by about half.
The drug, called “Molnupiravir”, was recently given to patients infected with the virus twice a day.
It is manufactured by Merck, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies.
They say the drug will be approved for emergency use in the United States within the next two weeks.
Anthony Fauchi, Chief Medical Adviser to President Joe Biden, says this is good news and that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is investigating the data.
