The Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Association says PCR and rapid antigen testing to diagnose corona infections is limited. Its chairman Upul Rohana points out that due to this, the spread of corona cannot be assessed by the society based on the daily reported number of infections. He also said that the Director General of Health Services has issued a circular restricting the testing of people with symptoms and first class affiliations. Accordingly, the tests are being carried out only for a very limited number of people, he said, adding that there may be several times as many infections in the general society as reported. Accordingly, he said, official statistics alone could not provide a proper estimate of the spread of the corona pandemic.

Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage says international media reports such as the BBC and Al Jazeera report that Sri Lanka is facing a food crisis are a conspiracy. He said in Parliament that there was no such food crisis in the country yesterday. The Minister said that the country today is not in a food crisis but a mafia and that a special program is being implemented on the instructions of the President to control the mafia and that the state of emergency was imposed for that purpose. He said that the imposition of the state of emergency was not a new thing and pointed out that the state of emergency was imposed during the Kolonnawa landfill collapse during the last government.
