Malik Peiris, Professor of Virology at the University of Hong Kong, says that the worst case of corona spread in Sri Lanka is likely to occur in the coming months.
He points out that there is an increase in infections globally, including in the South Asian region, due to the new Delta variant and he emphasized that the issue would have a major impact on Sri Lanka in the coming weeks.
He thanked the government and Professor Channa Jayasumana for the rapid vaccination currently taking place in Sri Lanka and warned that even two doses of the vaccine would not be enough to protect against the coronavirus in the remaining months.
He said this while he was addressing an online conference in Colombo.
