A special operation will be launched to find places where children under the age of 16 are employed as slaves

Police say that a special operation will be launched from today (27) in the Western Province to find places where children under the age of 16 are employed as slaves, Police Media Spokesman, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated.

Recent incidents have revealed that children under the age of 16 are being used as domestic servants and that such children are being subjected to cruelty, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana further said.

It is an offense under t he country’s criminal law to abuse children and to use them in slavery before reaching the age of majority,he explained.

Accordingly, the police will release such children based on the information received by the police.
