Teachers request salary increase of 30%

Discussions between the representatives of the teachers ‘and principals’ unions and the Minister of Education at the Ministry of Education yesterday failed.

As a result, it has decided to continue its trade union action against withdrawal from online teaching.

According to the reports the discussion lasted for about two hours and the union leaders said that they would continue to implement the trade union action against those who did not respond successfully to their demands, including online teaching.

A protest has also been organized in Pettah tomorrow and the unions have decided to consider suspending the current strike action if they increase their salaries by 15 percent.

Although their demand is for a 30% salary increase, they say it can only be considered if the Minister pursues a flexible policy.
