Strict travel restrictions will be imposed

Measures have been taken to relax the strict travel restrictions that were in effect across the country at 4 am this morning. However, inter-provincial travel has been suspended and shop opening in the Western Province have been restricted with the public transport. Minister of State Jayasumana stated that the Presidential Task Force which will meet this afternoon will decide whether or not the travel restrictions will be implemented in the future. He further added that the current situation of the spread of the virus is being studied in depth. Meanwhile, the Director-General of Health Services, Dr Asela Gunawardena stated that if there is an increase in the number of reported cases of corona infections, there will be severe travel restrictions in the future. He said that as there are about 2,000 patients reported at present, travel restrictions should be strictly adhered to in the country.

Vasudeva Nanayakkara has been hospitalized.

New corona cluster occur from Mawanella

About 78 out of 100 PCR tests in the Mawanella area have been identified as infected,MP Kabir Hashim said. He also alleged that a cluster of more than 700 infected people had been identified in the area. Basil Rajapaksa has returned to Sri Lanka.

Several backbenchers of the Sri Lanka People’s Front have stated that they will discuss the reduction of fuel prices which has been increased with his arrival in the country. Several parliamentarians have publicly stated that fuel prices would not have been increased if Basil Rajapaksa had been in the country.

Will Duminda Silva Release today?

Former parliamentarian Duminda Silva, who has been jailed since 2016, is likely to be released today (24) following a Presidential pardon. According to the Dilitha Jayaweera owned ‘The Morning’, legal sources have said that the necessary arrangements for the release have been completed. Silva was jailed in September 2016 after the Colombo High Court found him and several others guilty in the murder of former MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.
