Oil slick occur around the burned x Press pearl cargo ship
Sky News reports that there is a large oil slick around the ship which sank after catching fire in front of the Colombo harbour. According to sky news, a satellite image had revealed a huge oil slick has poured into the water surrounding the damaged vessel. Citing satellite images, they refer to the event as Sri Lanka’s worst maritime and environmental catastrophe. The report also states that the oil slick is hundreds of meters long. “The images, taken on Monday, show the slick is several hundred metres long. Although a part of the ship has sunk to the seabed, large sections of the wrecked ship can also be seen in the images.” Sky news
Sri Lanka had already imported organic fertilizer
The National Organizer of the All Ceylon Agrarian Federation Namal Karunaratne said that several containers of organic fertilizer have been imported by a private company. He states that three containers containing organic fertilizer from India have already been packed in the container yard at Thotalaga, Colombo. He questions how someone can import organic fertilizers into the country when it has banned under the Plant Quarantine Act and the Animal Quarantine Act. However, in response to these allegations, the Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage states that organic fertilizers are already being imported to this country through 20 companies and that he did not expect to import organic fertilizer in the future and would only import nitrate liquids if necessary.

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has issued a new gazette notification for the sale of gas with effect from June 9. Accordingly, traders should not refuse to hide or sell 12.5 kg gas cylinders while in their possession. Person dies after being hit by a bus transporting foreigners to quarantine
A cyclist was killed after he was hit by a bus carrying foreigners for quarantine last evening (June 09). The luxury bus was carrying a group of foreigners was travelling on the A-9 road when it collided with a bicycle while attempting to cross the road in the travelling area, police said. Residents of the area then behaved provocatively and damaged the bus after the incident and Chavakachcheri police intervened and brought the situation under control. Five persons have been arrested on suspicion of damaging the bus and Chavakachcheri Police are conducting further investigations.
The infection and death rate in Sri Lanka is much higher than in India
According to the Association of Specialist Physicians, the number of corona infections in Sri Lanka is on the rise and if the situation continues to worsen, the health system of the country will be collapsed. Therefore, the government should take steps to maintain the existing restrictions, President of the Association, Dr Lakkumara Fernando said. There are many shortcomings in the current active travel restrictions and that they should be rectified and re-imposed to make any progress within these limits, It would take more than two weeks for it to function properly as any progress had not yet been made due to the existing shortcomings; he said. 10 people arrested for organising a party in a hotel violating travel restrictions
