Sri Lanka had already imported organic fertilizer

The National Organizer of the All Ceylon Agrarian Federation Namal Karunaratne said that several containers of organic fertilizer have been imported by a private company.

He states that three containers containing organic fertilizer from India have already been packed in the container yard at Thotalaga, Colombo.

He questions how someone can import organic fertilizers into the country when it has banned under the Plant Quarantine Act and the Animal Quarantine Act.

However, in response to these allegations, the Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage states that organic fertilizers are already being imported to this country through 20 companies and that he did not expect to import organic fertilizer in the future and would only import nitrate liquids if necessary.
