Sri Lanka Seeks compensation from the company that owns the burned ship

The Marine Environmental Protection Authority (MEPA) says it has already sought compensation from the company that owns the MV Express Pearl for the economic damage caused by the fire.

Its chairperson, Attorney-at-Law Dharshani Lahadapura stated that the compensation was sought through the Attorney General. Ms Dharshani Lahadapura stated that compensation is also expected to be paid for the environmental damage caused by the ship.

“The first compensation claim has already been made. We have asked for the damage that can be taken directly from them. At the same time, the expert committee is working on environmental damage. The second request will be made after receiving the report,” she said.
