CID arrested Azath Salley

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the Former Governor of Western Province Azath Salley today evening. (March 16).
Coordinating officer of the Attorney General Nishara Jayaratne states that the arrest was made on the advice of the Attorney General.

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said that provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism (PTA) is keep Salley under detained and interrogated.

This is because of a controversial statements Azath Salley made with regard of the law of the country as the Leader of the National Unity Front (NUF).

He had stated that he will only respect the Quran, the Hadiths and Shariah but not the laws of the government.
