Western province school reopening post postponed again

Education Ministry announced that shools from all the provinces except the western province will be re open in next week. Education minister G.L peris approved the reopening of the government schools in March 15. The first stage of first term of the government and government approved other schools was concluded on 25th of February and the reopening date was announced as 15th of March earlier. The second stage of first term is commenced on March 15 for all other provinces except to the western province.

The Department of Government Information states that Sri Lanka has reported 05 more coronavirus related deaths and it has made bring the number of COVID-19 related deaths troll in Sri Lanka up to 489 in total. Also Sri lanka has registered 351 more covid positive cases during past 24 hours. It has made the total number of Covid-19 infections confirmed to 84 577. The amount of total recoveries reported as 80836 with 399 more patients regained health. But 3257 positive people were under medical care in different selected hospitles accross the country.
Womens body abandoned in Dam street was Carried from Hanvella (CCTV footage)

A womens body had been stuffed in a suitcase and abandoned in the Dam Street Colombo yesterday (March 01) Police had found CCTV footages of the suspects who brought the dead body to the Dam street Pettah. Police reported that the man is wearing a face mask dragging the suitcase along the road and left it in the road side yesterday. After further investigations police had found today (March 2) that the suitcase was carried from Hanvella to Colombo in a privert bus. Police media spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana states that Police js conducting further investigations using CCTV footages of the suspects.

The secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Dr Yousef Al Othaimeen request to Sri lankan goverment to halt the forced cremation of Muslim Covid victims in Sri lanka. He made this request while he addressing the United Nations Human Rights Council yesterday. It wasHigh Level Segment of the 46th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Dr. Yousef Al Othaimeen explained that OIC is aware of all the situations of Muslim communities even they aren’t members of the OIC. Also he further said that burial of Muslim Covid Victims can be done under the guidelines of the World Health Organization. Also he requested government to take action to this effect to respect the right of burial of the bodies of the Muslim Covid 19 victims.

Vehicle import ban to continues

Sri Lanka’s ban on vehicle imports will remain until the end of 2021, state minister of capital market Ajith Nivard Cabraal has said. He added that the decision to impose the import ban on vehicles will be reviewed by the end of this year. The government, in March 2020, decided to suspend the importation of vehicles, as an economic revival measure amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
