No power cut for tomorrow

The Public Utilities Commission says that there will be no daily electricity cuts tomorrow (06) and the day after tomorrow (07).

Yupun Abeykoon and Palitha Bandara got medals in the Commonwealth games 2022.

The medal ceremony of the events won by Yupun Abeykoon and Palitha Bandara, who won Commonwealth medals, was held last night (04). The 2022 Commonwealth Games 100m men’s medal ceremony was presided over by Mr Adil Sumariwal, a member of the World Athletics Council. There, the gold medal went to Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya, while the silver medal went to defending champion South Africa’s Akani Zimbini. Yupun Abeykoon won the bronze medal there with the distinction of winning Sri Lanka’s first Commonwealth Games medal in 24 years of athletics. Meanwhile, the medal ceremony of the F 42-44 category para discus throwing event was also held last night (04). Palitha Bandara of Sri Lanka won the silver medal there. This is also the first medal won by a Sri Lankan athlete in a Commonwealth Para Games.

Passengers are facing severe difficulties due to the bus strike

 Passengers are facing severe difficulties due to the strike started by several private bus unions, It is noted that the number of private buses travelling from many cities has decreased. The Secretary of All Ceylon Private Bus Owners’ Association Mr. Ajanna Priyanjith said that the Inter-Provincial Bus Owners’ Association and the Common United Bus Owners’ Association are joining the strike. Meanwhile, Chairman of Ceylon Private Bus Owners’ Association Mr. Gemunu Wijeratne stated that his association has also withdrawn from the bus service since midnight last night.  Due to the bus strike, there was also an increase in passengers on the coastal railway.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of America has landed in Taiwan despite China’s strong protest

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of America has landed in Taiwan despite China’s strong protest. As a result, there is a risk of igniting a major diplomatic crisis between China and America, according to foreign media. China considers Taiwan as a part of its government and media reports that the United States will give Taiwan great international recognition through this flight. Before the American Deputy Speaker landed in Taiwan, several Chinese warplanes had passed through Taiwan’s airspace to protest the American Deputy Speaker’s landing in Taiwan.  After the landing, the Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement stating that the US would have to suffer severe consequences. The Chinese Foreign Ministry says that this is a serious violation of China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. China has also stated that China will take all necessary measures for its sovereignty and that all the consequences arising from that should be borne by the American side and the separatist forces in Taiwan.

Political Crisis in Sri Lanka-Rathindu Senaratne alias Ratta has been arrested

Rathindu Senaratne alias Ratta has been arrested yesterday afternoon. Rathindu Senaratne aka Ratta came to Colombo Crime Division this afternoon to give a voluntary statement regarding the incident that led to the arrest of Mr Pathum Karner. His lawyer said that an officer from the special unit of the Company Street Police arrived at the time and arrested him. The lawyer said that the arrest was made in relation to a case in the Fort Magistrate Court. The police said that the Colombo Central Division Criminal Investigation Bureau arrested Rathidu Senaratne on charges of damaging public property during a protest on Bank Mawatha last May 21.

Current Situation in Sri Lanka-A protester who stole a bottle of liquor from the presidential palace was arrested

A person who entered the President’s House in Colombo Fort stole a bottle of alcohol and drank it has been arrested. A forty-one-year-old welder by profession has been arrested by the Kurunegala Wellawa Police. On the 9th, he participated in a protest with two friends and entered the presidential palace and drank a bottle of beer there with two friends. The police also claim that the beer glass used to drink the beer has been taken home to keep as a souvenir.

Fuel Shortage in Sri Lanka-A special Bus service for school children, Schools are conducting only three days

The National Transport Commission says that a bus service will be started from today (01) for the transportation of school children.  Its Director General Dr Nilan Miranda said that these buses will be added to the operation in addition to the student buses. The Ministry of Education says that from today (01) to 05, only 3 government and government-approved private school days will be held this week. Accordingly, schools will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Ministry of Education says that on the other two days, Wednesday and Friday, activities that can be engaged in learning from home or online teaching activities have been decided.
