Supreme Court Judge recuses himself from petition claiming violation of fundamental rights by cremation of their 20 days old baby

A 20 days old Infant who had been receiving treatment at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children (LRH) was died due to COVID 19 infection and the child was sent to cremation. Later the babys parents filed a Fundamental Rights petition filed regarding the cremation of a 20-day old infant. The petition was taken up before the Supreme Court today (March 29) in front of Justices Priyantha Jayawardena, L. T. B. Dehideniya, Gamini Amarasekara, Yasantha Kodagoda, and Kumuduni Wickramasinghe. But the Supreme Court Judge Yasantha Kodagoda said he was withdrawing from the case due to a personal reason. Accordingly the consideration of the petition was postponed to May 25.
11 lost near Bambarakanda waterfall area found

Police had found the group of boys of 11 missing while visiting Bambarakanda waterfall yesterday evening (March 28) The team was unable to find the route due to heavy fog and rising of the water of the water fall. Later they had informed the Colombo Disaster Management Center. Haldummala police launched a search operation immidietly with the help of the police and later found them all safely.
Women arrested for murdering her husbund

Police media spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that a 38 years old women was arrested for murdering her hudbund. It was found after preliminary investigation that she was murdered her husbund over personal issue. The women was a resident of Lunuwila in Koswatte and she was a mother of three. DIG Ajith Rohana said that the deceased was a 44 years old and the three children’s were taken in to the police custody.
Wild elephant attack a mother and a student in Polonnaruwa

Mother and a student were attacked by a wild elephant in Sadagalathenna, Dehiattakandiya Polonnaruwa today morning (March 29). The injured two were admitted to the Dehiaththakandiya Regional Hospitle.They were attacked near the school gate around 6.45 am today. The child was a student of grade to in Sadagalathenna Collage and mother was reported as 25 years old and they were residents of Sadagalathenna area.
Massive Fire erupts at a oil refinery ; Indonesia

Fire broke out at the Balongan refinery one of the country’s largest oil refineries run by state oil firm Pertamina today (March 29) Firefighters in Indonesia are working to reduce the massive fire and five people are injured and around 950 residents have been evacuated to safety. But many were reported missing. The media reported the fire still raging on today morning with a large smoke rising high above the refinery located in West Java province and cause of the fire remains unclear.

Two school boys around age 17 have drowned in the Diganawela falls in Welewathugoda Kolonna yesterday evening (March 28) Police reported that they were drawn while they were bathing and the deceased had been identified as residents of Halwinna, Godakawela. Coconut oil price will be increase during the festival season ; The All Ceylon Traditional Coconut Oil Producers Association

The price of the coconut oil will be increase in upcoming festive season, The All Ceylon Traditional Coconut oil Producers Association said. The reports of realeasing of the carcinogenic coconut oil to the market is the reason behind the price increasing. Also they warned about a shortage of coconut oil in the market during the festive season. Food Safety Unit of the Ministry of Health recomonded to reexport the imported 13 coconut oil containers which was said to be contain carcinogenic alfatoxin. Warehouses of the three companies were sealed by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) until the coconut oil stock is reexported. This action was taken to assure the public that stock was not released to the market. Apart from that CAA collect random samples across the country to find whether the carcinogenic coconut oil has released to the market before. Because of this situation releasing imported coconut oil to the market also effected as the countries daily consumption requirements around 300 – 350 metric tons price will be increased.
