Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith Cardinal stated the bombing of Easter Sunday was carried out by a group trying to consolidate their political power. Protests against Minister Jeevan Thondaman: he has insulted women

Several women’s organizations in the plantation sector staged a protest at Malliappuwa Junction in Hatton on yesterday (April 18) against a statement made by the State Minister of Estate Infrastructure and Community Empowerment, Jeevan Thondaman, alleging that he had insulted women. State Minister Jeevan Thondaman recently had uttered an obscene word insulting women at a meeting to raise awareness among party members about the wage increase in Rs 1000at the Ceylon Workers’ Congress office in Kotagala. Minister of State Jeevan Thondaman was involved in the protest on social media, claiming that he had intervened to pay the plantation workers a salary of Rs. The women said. He had claimed that he was intervened to pay the plantation workers a salary of Rs.1000 and none of others involved in the process. But the protesting women claimed that a statement is circulating on social media alleging that he had insulted woman. The protesting women said that the statement made by Minister of State Jeevan Thondaman should be withdrawn and that all women in this country should unite and protest against that statement. The protest was supported by several youth organisations in the plantation areas and was heavily guarded by the police.

Muttiah Muralitharan undergoes a heart surgery

Sri Lanka Association of Information Technology had issued a statement on February 2, 2021 under the headline of“Pyramid Business in Sri Lanka in the Name of Crypto Money ..! and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has responded to it on April 9. Following is the media statement issued by Information Technology Association Sri Lanka of Sri Lanka;In a press release issued by the Information Technology Association of Sri Lanka, we note that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has a role to play in the use of cryptocurrencies in Sri Lanka, the regulation of cryptocurrencies and the raising of public awareness on cryptocurrencies. The bank has taken steps to make the public aware of the use of “crypto currency” through a press release. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has not licensed or authorized any institution or company to take action on virtual currency or cryptocurrencies, including undeclared electronic money, and any institution may be required to generate crypto money through computers or exchange crypto currency on the Internet(Virtual Currency Exchanges). Police is conducting a special operation to arrest drunk drivers

A special operation is conducting to arrest drunk drivers on all roads accross the country including expressways from 12.00 noon today (April 18) to 6.00 am tomorrow (April 19); police media spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said. The Police Media Spokesman stated that 1834 drunk drivers have been arrested after a special operation of five days.

A new manager appointed for the Sri lankan cricket team for upcoming Bangladesh tour

Manuja Kariyapperuma has been appointed as the interim Manager of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team for the upcoming two test match series against Bangladesh; Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket Management Committee, Professor Arjuna de Silva said. He was appointed as the Manager of the Sri Lanka Team only for the Bangladesh series. He is the present Consultant of Women’s Cricket Operations and Development.
