Sri Lanka reported highest number of covid 19 vaccination during one day in yesterday

The highest number of people were vaccinated against covid 19 Yesterday recording 515,830 vaccinations yesterday, said State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana. The first dose of Sinopharm vaccine alone was given to 418,494 people and 56,738 doses of Sinopharm vaccines as the second dose. Also, he further said that 38,430 doses of Faizer and 2,168 doses of Modernna were also administrated yesterday

A suspect has been arrested with 40 kilograms of heroin value of the drugs is around Rs. 400 million

A suspect has been arrested during a raid carried out by the Colombo Police Narcotics Bureau and the Kalutara District Crimes Division today morning (30),with 40 kilograms of heroin in the Renukana area in Bandaragama,police said. It has been revealed that the drug trafficking is being carried out from the United Arab Emirates. Police Media Spokesman, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the value of the drugs is around Rs. 400 million.

Wanidu Hasaranga is likely to play in the IPL this year

Several Indian Premier League (IPL) teams have shown interest to sign contracts with Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga to be part of the IPL 2021. The IPL 2021 is scheduled for September and was previously suspended indefinitely due to a increase in COVID-19 case India in May. It has been scheduled to held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting on19th while the final will be sheduled to held on October 15. According to the reports least four IPL teams has been approached to Wanindu Hasaranga to take him as a replacement player for the IPL 2021. IPL teams can sign replacements for players who will not travel to Dubai for the tournament in September and Wanindu is likely to play permit him if Sri Lanka authorities give him permission to play.

Sri Lanka has uploaded over 17,000 child pornography videos uploaded to the internet during the last few weeks

Around 17,629 pornographic video clips and photos related to children have been uploaded to the internet using laptops, desktops, phones, and tabs in Sri Lanka, between 17th June and 28th July 2021, Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said. Police had established a special unit at the Police Children and Women Bureau to monitor pornographic material related to children and it has been named the “National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children”.The unit will monitore various social media platforms. Also, they will use modern technology to trace suspects posting pornographic content related to children on the internet andpeople who have shared or forwarded such content to various parties, he further said. Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said the suspects have been identified and a special police team has been deployed today to trace and apprehend the suspects.

15 year old girl abuse case – A lot of information has been revealed about the main suspect

The main suspect in the selling   a 15-year-old girl online is involved in drug trafficking as well as money laundering, the Children and Women’s Bureau informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (29). The officers of the Children and Women’s Bureau further stated that the main suspect in the case had earned money by stripping the underage girl involved in the incident, filming her various scenes, releasing them on the internet and selling them to various people.  After considering the facts presented, the Magistrate stated in open court that the court did not consider the victim girl as a prostitute. The complaint was taken before Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrema today. Accordingly, the Bureau informed the court that the CID is conducting separate investigations into the drug trafficking and the money laundering by the main suspect.

Court order on Ishalini’s body

The Nuwara Eliya Magistrate ordered the police to exhume Ishalini’s body and take it to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for a second post mortem under the supervision of a medical board by quarantine instructions. The girl had died at the Colombo National Hospital recently due to burning injuries sustained while working as a servant in the house of former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen. Nuwara Eliya Magistrate Lushaka Kumari Dharmakirthi today (29) ordered the police to exhume the body tomorrow and act as instructed by the court. Hansa Abeyratne, Attorney-at-Law, statedin a ‘B’ report on the order issued by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court to exhume the body of the deceased girl and testify before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court today (29) as the body is buried in the public cemetery in the western part of Dayagama, the exhumation should be done under the supervision of the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate.

Government remove restrictions on passenger aircrafts

The Sri Lankan authorities have taken steps to remove the restrictions for the number of people who have completed the vaccination that can be brought on a flight to Sri Lanka. Accordingly, airlines will be allowed to repatriate passengers who have paid for 14 days after receiving both injections. Also, under the Sri Lanka Tourist Board’s ‘Bio Bubble’ concept, fully vaccinated tourists are allowed to return to Sri Lanka at full passenger capacity. But only 75 people can be carried on a single flight without a single dose or vaccine.  However, those passengers must be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival in the country.

Wimal Weerawansa is under quarantine and the Ministry of Industries building has been closed with immediate effect

The Ministry of Industries building has been closed with immediate effect. According to the news reports the building near the Cinnamon Grand Hotel on Galle Road, where the ministry is located, has been closed due to a corona threat. It is reported that the security personnel of Industry Minister Wimal Weerawansa have also been infected with the virus and the Ministry has made arrangements to direct the employees associated with the quarantine. Accordingly, Wimal Weerawansa, Minister of Industry is under quarantine at his residence.  The minister said that several of his security personnel had taken this step due to corona infections and his ministry office has also been closed for 14 days. He said this is while posting a state on social media.

The CID has arrested a woman under the Money Laundering

The CID has arrested a woman under the Money Laundering Act for maintaining five bank accounts and making money from drug trafficking. Police Media Spokesman, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated that over Rs. 60 million has been circulating in those accounts during the last 4 years. The arrested person is a 41-year-old woman residing in Dehiwala. The woman was arrested on information provided by the Financial Investigation Unit of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Information has also been revealed about the persons who credited the money to the woman’s accounts. The police spokesman further said that many of them were identified as local drug traffickers or drug addicts.

A person has been arrested for driving a jeep with the name POLISH, RABUKKANA to mislead the public. According to the Police Headquarters, the suspect was arrested by the Rambukkana Police on April 10 in Wariyapola and the suspect was produced before the court and released on bail. According to the police, a photo of the incident that took place three months ago has been posted on social media these days.
