Gregory Lake emptied

During the cold December months, the beautiful Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya is usually overflowing with local and foreign tourists. Many tourists do not forget to take a boat ride on Lake Gregory. However, Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya, which was devastated by the recent covid pandemic, and the surrounding area are currently experiencing an increase in tourist arrivals. Members of tourist boat associations have alleged that the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council had taken steps to drain Lake Gregory during such a period.  They say that the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council has taken steps to drain the tank from the 22nd of this month, saying that a walkway will be constructed on the bank of the Gregory Lake which is controlled by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council and that the Gregory Lake will be developed. They further stated that due to the development work being carried out these days, it has become impossible for local and foreign tourists visiting Nuwara Eliya to visit the Gregory Lake premises and the development work being carried out by the Municipal Council should be carried out after the end of the Christmas season.

Covid infections rise sharply in Britain

Health officials in Britain say there has been a rapid increase in the number of people infected with covid. LPL final in Hambantota today

The final of the Sri Lanka Premier League Cricket Tournament is scheduled to be played today (23). That goal was between the Gladiators team and the Jaffna Kings team. The match is scheduled to start at 7.30 pm tonight at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota. The United States records a remarkable victory in the cricket field

Girl killed in assault by dad

 A 14-year-old girl has died after being assaulted in the Mount Temple area in the Gampola Police Division. The girl’s uncle had assaulted her yesterday (21) due to a love affair. Later yesterday morning, when the girl was sick and moaning, the girl’s father had beaten the girl again saying that he would not let her sleep. The victim was identified as 14-year-old Nipuni Nuwanthika Bandara, a student at a well-known girls’ school in Gampola.  Police say that the girl’s father and uncle have been arrested in connection with the incident. Gampola Police are conducting further investigations.

The highest divorce settlement in history

The divorce of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Al Maktoum and his wife has become the largest ransom in the history of British law. The ruler of Dubai had to pay his wife 500 million in divorce compensation. The youngest of the six wives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, is 47-year-old Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein. She is the daughter of Hussein, the former king of Jordan. Princess Haya married Maktoum in 2004 and the marriage ended in 2019. The couple also has two children from their marriage. Princess Haya, who fled to Britain with her two children out of fear of her husband in April 2019, has filed for divorce in a London court against Maktoum. The ruler of Dubai has been ordered to pay around 5 550 million to settle the divorce with Princess Haya and her two children. Judge Philip Moore said most of the money would be used to pay for the threat posed by the ruler of Dubai to Princess Haya and her two children.

People in North Korea are not allowed to smile for 11 days

 Foreign media have reported about a country that banned its citizens from even smiling for 11 days. That country is North Korea ruled by Kim Jong Yun. Foreign media have reported that an 11 day mourning period has been declared in memory of his father Kim Il Sung. The mourning period has been declared from December 17. During this period, the people of the country are prohibited from drinking alcohol and engaging in shopping.  It is also reported that it is forbidden to engage in recreational activities or any celebrations during the mourning period.

There will be power cuts

The Ministry of Power and Energy states that there will be power cuts in some areas.  Ministry Media Spokesperson Sulakshana Jayawardena stated this situation has arisen due to the incomplete generation capacity of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant Accordingly, the power supply will be cut off for half an hour and 40 minutes in some areas as required, he said. He said that this situation has arisen due to the ongoing repairs to the power generator of the power plant and that these restrictions will have to be imposed to manage the system when the demand for electricity increases at night. He further expressed confidence that the situation would improve after reconnecting the system as soon as the repair work on the generators was completed

Sri Lanka still sells fuel at a lower price than India- Central Bank Governor

Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal says Sri Lanka still sells fuel at a lower price than India. He points out that a liter of premium petrol which costs 264 rupees in India sells for 210 rupees in Sri Lanka. He also says the exchange crisis cannot be subsidized to stay longer. He added that controlling the supply of fuel would reduce the flow of foreign exchange for fuel.

A mysterious ship anchored off the coast of Batticaloa and dumping sand

TNA MP Shanakayan Rasamanikkam says that sand is being dumped by a ship anchored off the coast of Batticaloa. He also says that the sand unloaded from that ship will be transported by another ship at night. He also said that armed officers would divert those approaching. The MP has said this while posting a note on his social media account.
