Putin names two pro-Russian provinces of Ukraine as independent states

Addressing the nation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the pro-Russian provinces, which belong to Ukraine and reject Ukrainian rule, are recognized as independent states. The pro-Russian separatist provinces of Ukraine are the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which borders Russia. This is the first time that Russia has officially recognized these provinces as independent states. Donetsk and Luhansk have been supporting Russia since 2014, rejecting Ukrainian rule. In 2014, Russia similarly invaded the Ukrainian Crimean peninsula, which had refused to rule Ukraine.

The police stated that the summons was issued to obtain a statement regarding the attack on the house of journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrema. Prior to the attack, Pushpika de Silva had joined a discussion on an internet channel run by Chamuditha Samarawickrema. A number of controversial issues were revealed and various parties have taken legal action in this regard. A statement from Pushpika de Silva has been summoned as an extension of the ongoing investigation into the attack. Mr. Samarawickrema’s house was attacked on the 14th and no arrests have been made so far.

The ministry said six of the 14 Sri Lankan students in Ukraine had temporarily left the country and were in close contact with other students through the Sri Lankan embassy in Ankara.

The suspect was produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court today and remanded till the 28th of this month. The suspect was a resident of Hedala, Wattala tried to send money to Salidu Malshitha, a resident of Kuda Arukgoda, Panadura, who is currently under investigation under the Money Laundering Act.

The Ministry of Justice has decided to include amendments to the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act, including making a policy decision to allow polygamy of Muslim men on strict conditions. As per the proposal made by the Ministry of Justice at its Cabinet Meeting held on 8th March 2021 on the recommendation of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Legislative Drafting It was decided to ban polygamy of Muslim men, introduce new laws and abolish Khati courts. However, the Ministry of Justice points out that the decision has been opposed by the Muslim community. The Ministry of Justice is of the view that it is appropriate to implement the law in the Kathi courts as the submission of polygamy laws of the Muslim community to the District Courts is another reason for the legal delay. The Ministry of Justice has decided that only issues that cannot be resolved should be referred to the District Court.

A foreigner has died after falling from the top floor of a hotel

A foreigner has died after falling from the top floor of a hotel in Ella. The deceased was a 28 – year – old Czech national. His body is currently being treated at the Demodara Hospital. Police suspect that the accident had taken place yesterday morning (20) due to a slip. The magisterial inquiry into the body is scheduled to be held as soon as possible.
