Minister of Public Security, Sarath Weerasekera has stated that he has never stated that all madrassa schools will be banned.
Active schools according to the National Education Policy in the country, will not be banned.
Minister further explained “But, if there are madrasas that only teach religion and language, they should be banned.”
He also states that Muslim religious leaders and organizationsit has given the approval approval for the decision.
The Minister expressed these Responding to a statement made by Mr. Marikkar in Parliament.
