British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his resignation

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his resignation Thursday outside his official residence in Downing Street.

He resigned after a number of ministers quit his cabinet and called for him to quit, and was criticized as the most ‘power-hungry’ British prime minister.

Outside his office, Johnson said he would agree to resign as leader of the ruling Conservative Party.

As a result, he will stay until a successor is chosen in October and then step down as Prime Minister. He also mentioned that he has appointed a new cabinet that will work with him “until a new leader is appointed”.

“I’m so sorry to have to leave the best job in the world..but those are the breaks in life sometimes,” he said sadly.

The leader of the opposition Labor Party said: “Boris Johnson’s resignation as Prime Minister is good news for the country. But it seems like it should have happened a long time ago. He is leaving the post after being accused of many scandals and misconduct.”
