There is no shortage of food in the north. It is sold at the same price as in India

Sources in the area say that given the growing economic crisis, there is a shortage of food items in many areas, but in the Northern Province, essential food items such as rice, lentils and turmeric can be bought in abundance at Indian prices.

A kilo of rice is priced between 70 and 100 rupees and a kilo of lentils is priced between 350 and 400 rupees. The security forces have also revealed information that a kilo of turmeric is sold at a price between 1200 and 2000 rupees,  in Jaffna and Mannar.

Information has been received that the fishermen in the north buy the food items from the Indian fishermen at the sea border and bring them meticulously and sell them to the brokers and businessmen.

It is reported that Indian fishermen in about 1500 trawlers come to the coast of this country on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and those vessels transport food in bulk.
