It is reported that the All-party activists (protesters) have decided to ask the United Nations to intervene for a proper political transfer of power in the face of the crisis in the country.  The activists claim that the government is implementing a repressive program in this problematic situation and that international intervention is necessary because it may increase further. Four billion dollars from China to Sri Lanka

Bloomberg reports quoting the Sri Lankan ambassador to China that Sri Lanka is continuing to negotiate with China for US$4 billion in aid and believes that China will agree to it. In an interview with Bloomberg, Ambassador Palitha Kohona said that China will be asked for a billion-dollar loan to pay the same amount as the Chinese debt due this year. Kohona has further said that Sri Lanka is looking for a line of credit of US$1.5 billion to pay for Chinese imports and is also looking to enable an exchange of US$1.5 billion.

What is happening in Sri Lanka-Daily Covid -19 infections increasing – Ministry of Health

According to the Ministry of Health, the number of people infected with Corona is increasing slightly daily, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath said. The number of daily corona-infected people, which was limited to about 10 in the past few days, has increased to about 25. The Deputy Director General of Health Services requested the people to follow health safety measures given the current situation.

Britain, Singapore, Australia and Bahrain have informed the citizens of their countries not to travel to Sri Lanka except for essential reasons.  Updating the country’s travel advisories, they have informed that the security situation is bad due to the violent protests in Sri Lanka.  Therefore, they have advised their citizens to think twice before visiting Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, it is reported that tourists staying in many other foreign countries have been advised by their mother countries to leave Sri Lanka as soon as possible.

Fuel Crisis in Sri Lanka-The website introduced to register to buy fuel crashes in a few minutes

The government has introduced a licensing system to obtain fuel. The Ministry of Power and Energy has started a website for online registration. The website that was released yesterday to register by entering the National ID number and vehicle number to get fuel crashed within a few hours.  The reason is that the site has received a large number of visits within a short period. Launching the website, the energy minister said that if a large number of people access the website at once, it may be blocked.  Therefore, he requested to do the registration systematically within two or three days without panicking.

Ranil Wickremesinghe takes oath as the 8th Executive President of Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe is scheduled to take oath as the Acting President of the country in front of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya. Mr Wickramasinghe is going to act as acting president for 7 days after the resignation of Former President Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa from the presidency. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced today that the process of appointing a new president will be done through Parliament within the next seven days. He also mentioned that the Prime Minister will serve as the Acting President until then.

Central Bank Governor Mr Nandalal Weerasinghe states that if a stable government is not established in the country very soon, the country is likely to be shut down. He also claims that further work with the International Monetary Fund depends on having stable governance.  He says that even the provision of sufficient foreign exchange for the import of fuel in the country has become uncertain and he has also mentioned that public violence has arisen in the country due to the economic crisis. He mentioned this while speaking with the BBC news service.

Current Situation in Sri Lanka-The bus and train services in Colombo will resume after the curfew is lifted

The curfew imposed in the Colombo district at noon yesterday was lifted at 5.00 am today (15). Acting President Ranil Wickramasinghe issued this order yesterday according to the powers assigned under the provisions of the Public Security Ordinance Act. Ceylon Private Bus Owners’ Association said that after the lifting of the curfew, buses started running in the Colombo district. Its chairman Mr. Gemunu Wijeratne said that about 10% of the total number of buses are scheduled to run today.  The Sri Lanka Transport Board announced that the Colombo Langama bus service also started after 5.00 am. Steps have been taken to run trains as usual today.
