Political Crisis in Sri Lanka -IMF negotiation files missing from Prime Minister’s office after being captured by protesters

It is reported that many documents related to the discussions between the representatives of the International Monetary Fund and Sri Lanka have disappeared from the Prime Minister’s Office. Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Prime Minister held many rounds of talks with officials of the International Monetary Fund, but the Prime Minister’s Secretariat kept the records of all of them. But the Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson stated that the files were lost after the militants took over the office. A plane is turned back in the air saying that it cannot give transport to then president Gotabaya Rajapaksa

Media sources said that a plane that was flying to Singapore via the Maldives refused to take the then President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at the Male airport and was returned to India without landing. This plane, which took off from India, was brought back to India half an hour after it took off to go to the Maldives.  It has been revealed that the President of Sri Lanka and the President’s wife planning to take the plane and the authorities instructed the pilots to bring the flight back. The sources further said that although three planes were prepared to take the President from the Maldives to Singapore, they refused to take those planes due to various international pressures. India allowed paying India-Sri Lanka transactions in rupees

The Indian Reserve Bank has allowed Sri Lanka to trade in rupees for other countries including Russia.  The Reserve Bank also states that the exchange rate of monetary units between countries will be determined by the market.  The business standard report mentioned this on their website.

Fuel shortage in Sri Lanka- No fuel in the country, Power cut duration will be increased

Electricity generation activities are being affected due to a lack of fuel. Several thermal power plants have already stopped operations due to a lack of fuel. It is also reported that the burning oil in Sri Lanka is only enough for another 2 days.  Based on this situation, the power cut period will have to be further increased in the future, according to sources.

Yupun finishes 100m in 10.19 in USA, misses semi-final

The 18th World Athletics Championship has started in Oregon, America.  Yupun Abeykoon, the Sri Lankan running champion who joined the 100 meter event, had to withdraw from the preliminary round.  Yupun won the 05th place in that race and the time taken to complete the 100m race was 10.19 seconds. He missed the semi-final round by 0.04 seconds. Yupun, who completed the race in Switzerland earlier in 9.96 seconds, has retreated here.  Yupun Abeykoon has written a note on his face book about his match result, He said that he was hoping for victory, but lost it due to busy schedule and various problems.

Fuel Shortage in Sri Lanka- Another ship carrying 40,000 metric tons of diesel reached Sri Lanka

Another ship carrying 40,000 metric tons of diesel reached the island yesterday (16) night.  The petroleum storage terminal said that the diesel unloading of the ship has already started. However, the distribution of new oil stocks will not take place until the registration for the National Fuel Permit is completed.  Meanwhile, Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said yesterday that a ship carrying petrol will reach the island on the 18th or 19th.  The Minister of Energy mentioned that all these fuel ships have been paid.
