Economic Crisis in Sri Lanka- Electricity bill will increase by 69 % since August

Janaka Ratnayake, chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, said that the electricity tariffs will be increased from the beginning of next month (August) and the existing electricity tariff is likely to increase by about 69% accordingly.

At a press conference held yesterday (19) in Colombo, Mr. Ratnayake stated that even though the Electricity Board demanded a 130 % bill increase, it will be implemented in a manner that is as fair as possible by providing concessions to the lowest electricity consumers.

He also mentioned that the time given to the public to submit proposals regarding the increase in fees has ended and a review will be conducted on the 28th of this month at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, focusing on 150 proposals.
