Ranil Wickremesinghe takes oath as the 8th Executive President of Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe is scheduled to take oath as the Acting President of the country in front of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya. Mr Wickramasinghe is going to act as acting president for 7 days after the resignation of Former President Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa from the presidency. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced today that the process of appointing a new president will be done through Parliament within the next seven days. He also mentioned that the Prime Minister will serve as the Acting President until then.

Current Situation in Sri Lanka-Sri Lanka in a situation where the country will be shut down- Central Bank Governor to foreign media

Central Bank Governor Mr Nandalal Weerasinghe states that if a stable government is not established in the country very soon, the country is likely to be shut down. He also claims that further work with the International Monetary Fund depends on having stable governance.  He says that even the provision of sufficient foreign exchange for the import of fuel in the country has become uncertain and he has also mentioned that public violence has arisen in the country due to the economic crisis. He mentioned this while speaking with the BBC news service.

Current Situation in Sri Lanka-The bus and train services in Colombo will resume after the curfew is lifted

The curfew imposed in the Colombo district at noon yesterday was lifted at 5.00 am today (15). Acting President Ranil Wickramasinghe issued this order yesterday according to the powers assigned under the provisions of the Public Security Ordinance Act. Ceylon Private Bus Owners’ Association said that after the lifting of the curfew, buses started running in the Colombo district. Its chairman Mr. Gemunu Wijeratne said that about 10% of the total number of buses are scheduled to run today.  The Sri Lanka Transport Board announced that the Colombo Langama bus service also started after 5.00 am. Steps have been taken to run trains as usual today.
