The proposal to supply fighter jets to Ukraine has become completely confusing after the Biden administration vetoed Poland’s attempt to hand over a group of MiG-29s to the Ukrainian Air Force.
Poland had earlier said it could provide the US “discarded” jets to Ukraine for “free” access to enhance its defences against Russian aggression.
But overnight, Pentagon press secretary John Kirby issued a statement saying it would effectively drag NATO into a confrontation with Russia.
Raising that risk, the plan was flatly rejected.
