Another Sri Lankan to the post of Priyantha Kumara

The management of a factory in Sialkot, Pakistan, has decided to appoint another Sri Lankan to replace Priyantha Kumara, who was brutally beaten to death by his factory workers. This was revealed during a meeting between Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Afrafi, Special Envoy for Religious Co-operation of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, and Maulana Tariq Jameel, Religious Leader, during a meeting with the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, Vice Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama, in Pakistan.  Priyantha Kumara was brutally murdered by factory workers on the 3rd, accusing him of disrespecting his religion.

Food ration for plantation workers from Jeevan Thondaman

The Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) has decided to hold discussions with the Minister in charge of the subject Bandula Gunawardena to provide food items to estate workers through Sathosa at concessionary prices in the face of the rising cost of living in the country, the party’s treasurer and Nuwara Eliya District MP Marudapandi Rameshwaran said This was stated by MP Marudapandi Rameshwaran at a special media briefing held at the Ceylon Workers Congress headquarters in Kotagala on the 23rd. There is nothing harmful in Chinese fertilizer .. Singapore test confirms ,Sri Lanka will have to accept it again

Tests conducted in Singapore have revealed that the stock of organic fertilizer sent to Sri Lanka by Biotech does not contain harmful bacteria. The stock of fertilizer was rejected after tests conducted by the Plant Quarantine Unit of Sri Lanka revealed the presence of the bacterium Arvinia.  However, the Chinese company did not accept the denial and handed over the case to the Singapore SGS Company as a third party for investigation. The Sri Lankan government has also agreed to investigate by a third party. Meanwhile, the company recalled the ship with the fertilizer stock and the Sri Lankan government has approved to pay compensation for that.

People can travel without tickets from the train to anywhere today

The issuance of tickets at railway stations has been suspended due to the trade union action launched by the Station Masters on the 23rd.  Tickets were not issued at train stations, but train passengers were seen coming and going without tickets. Although the Station Masters are engaged in a trade union action, the train services on the Kandyan Railway are being carried out as usual.

Food inflation in Sri Lanka has risen ahead of Somalia

Food inflation in Sri Lanka has risen to 17.5%, according to the tradingeconomics website. It is ranked 16th in the world and 6th in the Asian region. Sri Lanka tops the list, even ahead of Afghanistan, Somalia, Haiti and Nigeria. This calculation is based on last month’s inflation of 9.9% and this time without updating to the Central Bank’s inflation rate of 11.1%.

A train collided with a bus

The Sagarika train traveling towards Beliatta collided with a private bus at the Beruwala Hospital Junction. The accident caused severe damage to the train and the bus. Only the driver was on the bus at the time of the accident. The accident had taken place when the bus had entered an unprotected railway crossing at the Beruwala Hospital Junction.

The Chinese government made a huge donation for treating kidney diseases

Donation said it was a donation that was not entirely a loan. During the discussions with China regarding the assistance, the Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa had repeatedly urged the people of his country to make donations in lieu of loans. He said he was impressed with the transparency of the program and said he would make the donation.

Two individuals arrested for stealing cheques

Police have arrested two suspects for stealing cheques and depositing them in a bank. The arrested persons are aged 32 and 38.  Investigations have revealed that the suspects are residents of Athurugiriya and Homagama areas. It is reported that they broke into the seat of a scooter type motorcycle and stole the cheques. The suspects had stolen cheques worth Rs. 470,000 and deposited them in the bank. Police also seized Rs. 403,000 from the money they had obtained at the time of their arrest.  The suspects were arrested following a complaint lodged with the Athurugiriya Police and are due to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court today.
