Two girls who escaped from the Wattegama orphanage in Kandy have been found

Three of the five girls who escaped from a rehabilitation orphanage in the Wattegama – Meegammana area in Kandy have been found. It was a government orphanage and the wardens had secretly run away with the girls on the 7th.

The five children had fled the scene while returning to a school near the orphanage. The girls were said to be between the ages of 16 and 18.

They had informed the police that they did not want to stay in the orphanage and therefore fled

They later surrendered to the police and was transferred to another orphanage. The other two children are also suspected to have gone to their homes or relatives’ homes and have not yet been found.
