A car collided with a train while crossing a railway crossing in the Waikkala area, police stated.

The accident had taken place at the Thambarawila railway crossing in Waikkala last evening (15).

The car was severely damaged and it was attached to the train and was thrown a short distance away. The driver of the car succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the Negombo Hospital, police said.

The deceased was a 49-year-old resident of the Muhunuwatawana area. The accident had taken place when the person was about to enter his car at the railway crossing despite the train signals and collided with a train traveling from Madampe to Colombo.
