Today is World Temperance Day World

 Temperance Day falls today (03). It is reported that nearly 20,000 people die every year due to alcohol consumption in the country.

Sampath de Saram, human development director at the Alcohol and Drug Information Center, said about 50 people a day die from alcohol use.

 Meanwhile, the Excise Department says that the excise licenses operating island wide should be closed today in view of the World Temperance Day.
