A kilo of turmeric powder in the market is Rs. 6,000 now

The National Movement for the Protection of Consumer Rights states that the price of a kilo of turmeric powder in the market has risen to Rs. 6,000 and consumers are now in a desperate situation.

People buy turmeric powder in 50 and 100 grams and accordingly they have to spend around 100 to 600 rupees per gram, said the chairman of the organization Ranjith Vithanage.

He said that some companies sell 20 grams of turmric powder in packets, which is around 170.

He said that the government should pay attention to this and formulate a program to provide turmeric powder to the people at a lower cost.
