The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has expressed its displeasure over the provision of the Pfizer vaccine to the Army outside the scientific methodology.

The union has also complained to the Minister of Health.

The Secretary of the Association, Dr Samantha Ananda, said that while the Epidemiology Unit was issuing small doses of vaccines to hospitals and medical officers, the Army was continuing to provide without any shortage.

He says that the hospital system is the best place to do that rather than vaccinating in gardens and elsewhere and for a long time it has been operating successfully through the hospital system in this country.

He points out that although the country’s health system can administer more than 500,000 doses of vaccines daily, the supply of vaccines is very limited and the vaccination centres are overcrowded and therefore the people are at high risk
