The 15-year-old girl in Mt. Lavinia had identified four suspects during an identification parade in connection with the online purchase and abuse of her.
The suspects were identified as Mohamed Ashmali, a former Minister of State for Finance in the Maldives, two hotel managers and a hotel employee in Bambalapitiya and Mount Lavinia.
However, the magistrate ordered the Maldivian to be released on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 and two sureties of Rs. 5 million each, but the other suspects were remanded until July 29.
According to the Police Children and Women’s Bureau, 41 suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the incident.
