Joseph Starling and others staged a protest at the Mullaitivu Army Quarantine Center

General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Starling and others staged a protest at the Mullaitivu Army Quarantine Center after being arrested and released on bail while they are on quarantine. Joseph Starling and 31 others were arrested and released on bail for allegedly violating the centre tine rules at the Parliament Roundabout, but were taken to an Army quarantine centre in Mullaitivu for violating the quarantine rules. Later last night, Joseph Starling and others protested using the resources of the Quarantine Center, demanding the government to withdraw the Kotelawala Defense University Bill. The convener of the Joint Unemployed Graduates Association Ven. Thenne Gnanananda Thero and the Media Secretary of the Jathika Bhikku Peramuna Ven. Koswatte Mahanama Thero also participated in the protest.

Covid 19 vaccination in Sri Lanka – Internationally Recognized Covid Vaccine Digital Certificate introduced

Minister Namal Rajapaksa introduced the Internationally Recognized Covid Vaccine Digital Certificate (Smart Digital Vaccine Certificate) for the people of Sri Lanka who have received both doses of the Covid 19 vaccine at the Ministry of Health. Accordingly, the Minister presented the first Covid injection digital card to Kapila Jeewantha, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Gymnastics Association, on behalf of the Sri Lankan team leaving for the Tokyo Olympics in Japan this month as the first phase. Application for this internationally recognized Covid Vaccination Digital Card (Smart Digital Vaccine Certificate) prepared by the Ministry of Health and the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) under the State Ministry of Digital Technology and Entrepreneurship Development Sri Lankans will soon be able to download it from the Ministry of Health website. This vaccination digital card contains the name, age, identity card number, date of vaccination, type of vaccine and batch number of the person who received the vaccine. This Covid Vaccination Digital Card is issued by the Government of Sri Lanka and its uniqueness lies in its ability to verify the accuracy from anywhere in the world through QR .

Sri Lanka import another Chinese made Sinopharm vaccine 2 million doses

Another 2 million consignments of the Chinese-made Sinopharm vaccine were brought to the Katunayake International Airport this morning to control corona infections in the country. The consignment was brought in by Sri Lankanan aircraft and is the largest consignment of vaccines ever received in the country.

Kelani Bridge connected at the centre

The state-of-the-art bridge under construction in Kelaniya was connected at the centre yesterday. The new Kelani Bridge at Peliyagoda was ceremonially connected at the centre by Highways Minister Johnston Fernando and other officials. The new Kelani Bridge project starts from the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway at the Peliyagoda Bridge Junction and ends at the Orugodawatta Junction and Port Access Junction. The bridge has six lanes from the end of the Colombo – Katunayake Expressway to the Bandaranaike Roundabout and will be four lanes from there on to the Orugodawatta, Ingurukade Junction and the Port entrance. The length of the bridge section across the Kelani River is 380 meters. The bridge is being constructed in two stages. The first package, the steel output bridge section, is at a cost of Rs. 31,593 million, while the second stage, the concrete suspension bridge section, is at a cost of Rs. 9,896 million.
