President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has told the Maha Sangha, led by the Asgiriya Maha Nayaka Thera, that he will never back down from the steps taken to use organic fertilizer for a healthier future generation.
The President also said that farmers would not be inconvenienced during the implementation of the program.
Due to the use of chemical fertilizers, farmers in many parts of the country suffer from several non-communicable diseases including kidney disease and the damage to the environment is enormous, he added
He further said that the government also spends more than $ 400 million annually on chemical fertilizer imports and the use of organic fertilizer would enable the country’s farmers to repay the money drawn to foreign institutions.
The President made this comments when he called on the Maha Nayaka Thera and other members of the Asgiriya Chapter yesterday (27).
