A man has been hospitalized after being injured in an explosion in the Swamithottam area in the Mullaitivu Police Division, Mullaitivu Police stated.

The man had swept the yard and dumped the garbage in a garden and set it on fire, shortly after an explosion occurs injuring him and he was admitted to the Mullaitivu Hospital, police said.

The exact cause of the explosion has not been revealed and police suspect that it may have been caused by an underground bomb or explosive device set on fire during the war.

The condition of the victim is not serious and Mullaitivu Police are conducting further investigations.
