C. Consortium Lanka Chairman Arjuna Hettiarachchi has been arrested by the CID this afternoon (June 16) and released on bail after being produced in court. Arjuna Hettiarachchi was arrested this morning after surrendering to the CID through his lawyers and was produced before Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatte. The suspect was released on a cash bail of Rs. 100,000 and two sureties of Rs. 1 million each and one of the two hostages was also ordered not to be a close relative of the suspect. The judge ordered that the suspect’s passport be handed over to the court and that his travel ban be imposed, the Controller of Immigration and Emigration, as well as airports and all ports, be notified of the order.
60 parliamentarians will join with Ranil Wikramasinghe
Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be sworn in as a Member of Parliament at the next session of Parliament, said former UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara. Former UNP member arrested with illegal liquor
Former UNP member of the Matara Pradeshiya Sabha and his supporter have been arrested on suspicion of illegally carrying liquor inside a three-storey house in the Makawita area in Matara, Matara Police said. A large amount of hospital waste has been dumped on the southern coast of Nagadeepa Island in Jaffna, Fishermen and locals said. Sri Lanka reported 2275 infection and 55 deaths during the past 24 hours
Another 2275 people infected with corona have been identified yesterday, the Government Information Department said. Together with them, the total number of infections reported in the country so far has risen to 228,126. Also,the death of another 55 people infected with corona has been confirmed by the Government Information Department yesterday. The number of corona deaths reported from the country with them rises to 2615.
